FAQ
Please reach out if your question isn't answered here!

How do I get started?
There are two options; you can either book a 15-minute consultation, or a regular 50-minute session. To schedule an appointment, please email bonniekoehncounsellor@gmail.com or fill out a contact form.

Do you offer free initial consultations?
Yes, I'm happy to offer a free 15-minute phone or Zoom consultation so we can get a sense of whether my energy and approach to therapy would be a good fit for you. Consultations of 20 minutes or longer are billed at my regular hourly rate.

Do you offer online sessions only?
My practice is solely virtual for now. I also offer phone sessions for clients who prefer this.

Are you licensed/registered?
Yes, I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Can you direct bill to my insurance?
Rather than providing direct billing to insurance, I provide you with receipts to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most insurance providers cover sessions with RCCs or CCCs (I'm both).

Are you a registered CVAP provider?
The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a government program that can provide counselling funding for individuals who have experienced traumatic events. I'm a registered provider of CVAP services and offer direct billing to CVAP for sessions with clients who have been approved for counselling with the program.

Do you see children or teens?
I work with clients age 16 and older. If you're seeking support for a child, or a teen under 16, I’d be happy to refer you to practitioners who specialize in child and adolescent therapy.

Is your counselling practice 2SLGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes! I love to work with clients of all identities, and offer support at all stages of relationship with self and others. I celebrate diversity and recognize the unique experiences of every client. I also offer counselling for parents who are seeking to better support their 2SLGBTQ+ kids of all ages (minor and adult).

Do you see couples?
Yes, I do. I enjoy working with couples of all genders, orientations, and family structures.

Do you offer litigation support?
Counselling can involve providing mental health support for those who have experienced litigation. However, it is not within the scope of my practice to offer evaluations, reports, custody statements, affidavits, court appearances, or legal advice.

What kind of support do you offer for survivors of intimate partner violence/family violence?
I work with survivors of IPV/FV once they've been living away from an abusive situation for some time. My expertise in this area is focused on second stage healing and post-traumatic growth. If you are currently experiencing IPV/FV or any risk to your safety, please reach out to your local crisis centre or YWCA for immediate support and safety planning, and/or contact me for resource or therapist referrals.

What are your fees?
My fees are based on the BCACC Standard Fee Schedule for Clinical Counsellors, and are as follows:
$150/50-minute individual session; $180/80-minute individual session
$170/50-minute couples session; $200/80-minute couples session
*As of December 19, 2024, GST is no longer charged on counselling therapy and psychotherapy services in unregulated provinces and territories.

Do you offer a sliding scale/reduced rates?
I reserve a limited number of reduced rate counselling spaces for clients facing financial and systemic barriers. These spots are limited to six sessions, and specific criteria must be met in order to qualify. If you're seeking reduced rate counselling, please specify this in your contact form/email.

What is your cancellation policy?
24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice require full payment.

Do you see clients from anywhere in Canada?
Insurance coverage and professional regulations for counselling vary across Canada. As a CCC/RCC, I can see clients from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut.

*Please note that I am unable to provide emergency or crisis services. If you are in need of urgent care, please reach out to your local crisis line, attend your nearest emergency department, or connect with mental health supports at Canadian Mental Health Association and/or Canada.ca Family violence resources.
