FAQ

How do I get started?
There are two options; you can either book a 15-minute phone consultation, or a regular 50-minute session. Either one will provide an opportunity to see whether it’s a good fit. To book, just email bonniekoehncounsellor@gmail.com or fill out a contact form.

Do you offer free initial consultations?
Yes, I offer a free 15-minute initial phone consultation so you can get a sense of whether my energy and approach to therapy would be a good fit for you.

Do you offer online sessions?
My practice is solely online via video call for now, with the possibility of in-person sessions in the future. I also offer phone sessions, if preferred.

Are you licensed/registered?
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.

Can you direct bill to my insurance?
I do not provide direct billing to insurance. However, I provide you with receipts to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Most insurance providers will provide reimbursement for sessions with an RCC or CCC (I'm both).

Are you a registered CVAP provider?
The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a government program that can provide counselling funding for individuals who have experienced traumatic events. I am a registered provider of these services and can bill CVAP for sessions with clients who have been approved for counselling with the program.

Do you see children or teens?
I work with clients over the age of 18, but I’d be happy to refer you to practitioners who specialize in child and youth therapy.

Do you see couples?
Yes, I do. I enjoy working with couples of all genders and family structures.

Is your counselling practice LGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes, I work with people of all identities, and enjoy supporting clients at all stages of relationship with self and others. I celebrate diversity and recognize the unique experiences of every client.

What are your fees?
My fees are based on the BCACC Standard Fee Schedule for Clinical Counsellors, and are as follows:

Do you offer a sliding scale/reduced rates?
I reserve a limited number of sliding scale counselling spaces for clients facing serious financial barriers. However, these spaces are full at this time. If you're seeking reduced rate counselling, I can refer you to clinics that offer excellent support through their intern programs.

What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice require full payment.

Can you see clients from anywhere in Canada?
Insurance coverage and professional regulations for counselling vary across Canada. As a CCC/RCC, I can see clients from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut.
